ABOUT ABBY

Abby developed a deep connection to the ‘aina (land) during her first six years in the Islands. “I spent a lot of time farming on the slopes of Mauna Loa on the Big Island,” she says. “Planting kalo, trimming bananas, and everything in between. It’s been an integral part of my island journey.”

That journey began the day after Abby graduated from high school in Oregon. “I knew I wanted to travel, and living in Hawai‘i seemed like a good first step. It’s said that if the Islands accept you, you’re meant to stay,” noting that things began lining up for her shortly after she arrived. One of her pursuits—assisting a local midwife with births—has proven to be an inspiration for her art. Her mixed-media pieces often feature hapai (pregnant) women.

While guiding for Hike Maui, Abby believes “it’s an honor to share the ‘aina with my guests. Everyone is excited to start the day and see what’s out there. We’re all smiling, and it’s a shared positive experience every day.”

Guest Quote: Abby is the best! She engaged with our group, and taught us so many things about the landscape, the local animals, the climate, and plants. She was the most authentic guide we’ve met throughout our entire trip.
