At Hike Maui, we pride ourselves on offering incredible experiences led by guides who not only know the trails but also have a deep passion for nature and a genuine love for sharing the beauty of Maui. This quarter, we’re excited to celebrate someone who embodies all of these qualities and more—our Guide of the Quarter, Gail!

Gail’s journey to becoming a guide at Hike Maui is as adventurous as the hikes she leads. With the heart of a hiker and the soul of a gypsy, her wanderlust has taken her to incredible places. Over the years, she has hiked Spain’s renowned Camino de Santiago solo—not once, but four times. Add to that her 2015 trek along the Pacific Crest Trail, and it’s no wonder Gail says, “I have roughly three thousand miles under my feet.”

Her passion for hiking is matched only by her love for yoga, which is what initially brought her to Maui. “I Googled ‘yoga teacher training in tropical locations,’ and the only search result in the entire United States was for a school here on Maui,” she recalls. That serendipitous search, along with a chance meeting with one of our guides at a restaurant, sparked her interest in turning her love of the outdoors into a profession. Once we learned about Gail’s extensive hiking history and saw her sparkling personality firsthand, hiring her was a no-brainer.

Now, 9 years into her journey with Hike Maui, Gail continues to amaze us and our guests. She brings an undeniable energy and positivity to every tour, helping people connect not only with the island’s natural beauty but also with one another. As our Guide Manager for several years, Gail has also been instrumental in passing along her knowledge and passion to each new class of guides, ensuring that every guest receives the same incredible experience. “In the morning, they’re strangers; during the hike they have fun swimming together in the waterfall pools; at the end, they’re hugging goodbye,” Gail says of her favorite part of guiding. It’s this ability to create lasting bonds that makes Gail such a special part of our team.

One guest summed it up perfectly: “The hike was spectacularly beautiful, but Gail made it amazing! We would follow Gail anytime, anywhere.”

But it’s not just our guests who appreciate Gail’s talents. According to our General Manager, Gail is more than just an amazing guide—she’s an integral part of our team. Based on manager input and staff feedback, we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this recognition. Gail embodies all of the qualities we take pride in at Hike Maui: teamwork, leadership, respect, reliability, education, customer service, and positivity. As Guide Manager, she has been a mentor and leader, always ensuring that our guides are prepared to provide unforgettable adventures. She even manages to stay cool and collected, despite being the “Gail Force” that she is.

We’re incredibly grateful for the impact Gail has on both her fellow guides and our guests. Her adventurous spirit, combined with her unwavering dedication to providing a remarkable experience, makes her a true asset to Hike Maui.
